A power play in East Asia, Capella Hotel Group is descending upon Taiwan with characteristic swagger.
The Capella brand – recently crowned “World’s Best” with its Bangkok property – unveiled its Taipei outpost on April 1st 2025. Nestled in Dunhua North Road’s leafy corridor – Taipei’s answer to London’s Mayfair – this “urban sanctuary” features 86 rooms including that most essential of modern luxuries: private pool terraces floating above the metropolis.
The hotel’s designer, Hong Kong-based André Fu, has crafted what’s billed as a “modern mansion,” which roughly translates to “obscenely beautiful spaces where one feels simultaneously intimidated and coddled.” The Capella Suite, a modest 228 square metres with views of Taipei 101, will no doubt become the city’s most photographed accommodation – at least by those who can afford it.
Naturally, the “Capella Culturists” (clued in concierges going above and beyond) stand ready to arrange bespoke experiences around the city. Cristiano Rinaldi, President, Capella Hotel Group says that curated experiences allow guests “to discover its architectural heritage, immersive culinary journeys, and thriving arts scene,” through excursions exploring the city’s oldest neighbourhoods to visiting a scenic tea farm nestled in the mountains.
Five distinct dining venues ensure guests needn’t suffer the indignity of eating twice in the same restaurant. The Western restaurant is predictably named “Ember 28” – one assumes for the 28-day aged beef rather than the temperature at which your credit card may spontaneously combust. As Taiwan angles for more luxury-seeking travellers, Capella’s arrival signals the island’s serious ambitions.
