Far from leaning on a generic formula, here’s five memorable rooftop bars that win on character, cocktails and the best panoramic views.
Bangkok’s rooftop cocktail bar scene has never suffered from a shortage of altitude, but the competition, including some new arrivals, is becoming more inventive, more atmospheric and, in some cases, a good deal higher. What was once a fairly straightforward formula – cold drink, big view, polite jazz – has today become a contest of personality, with each venue carving out its own version of the Bangkok night.
These five bars all say something useful, and different, about the city’s changing nightscape. Bangkok no longer just wants a view; but also a point of view. And in a skyline that keeps stretching upwards, personality and world building is the winning rooftop combination.
Sky Beach Bangkok

At the top of the list, quite literally, is Sky Beach Bangkok at The Standard, Mahanakhon. Perched on the 78th floor, it bills itself as the Thai capital’s highest rooftop bar. Come here for a fresh kind of energy; the bar seems like a destination in its own right and not just a sky high viewpoint to check off the list.
Cold, thematic cocktails are refreshing on a steaming hot Bangkok day. We’d like to think that this venue works just as well in the daytime as in the evening. The mood is lively, elevated, kitsch and upbeat. The bright yellow bar setting is part retro-futurism, part beach chic – right on brand for the Standard. A wrap around glass balcony gives you 360 degree, unobstructed views of the skyscape from a jaw-dropping 78th floor.
The Speakeasy at Hotel Muse

At Hotel Muse, the Speakeasy feels like a small, stylish act of time travel. Hidden above the bustle of Bangkok’s streets, it trades on the pleasures of discovery: the hidden door, the soft lighting, the old-world tailoring of the room. Whilst many Bangkok rooftop bars can feel touristy, here its more like you slipped away somewhere slightly illicit.
It seduces with an amber-lit and unhurried mood: leather, dark wood and a faintly theatrical polish that gently nods to the roaring twenties. Cocktails arrive with that quiet confidence that suits the setting. What gives The Speakeasy its appeal is not novelty alone, but the way it manages to feel both Bangkok-specific and quite transported. The city’s heat and energy are left downstairs; up here the air is cooler, the tempo slower, and the conversation better.
Yào Bar

Yào Bar at Bangkok Marriott Hotel The Surawongse, which brings a more polished, modern-Chinese sensibility to the rooftop scene. Spread across two levels with a more formal restaurant as well as open rooftop, it pairs skyline views with midnight dim sum and golden sweeping views over the Chao Phraya River. The atmosphere is less shouty than some of the city’s bigger-name rooftop venues, and all the better for it; this is a place for lingering, not just posing and instagram pics. Dine on fine Cantonese and Shanghainese cuisine whilst looking at epic city vistas that include Bangkok’s old town area. Great service and well considered cocktails make for an excellent spot where you’re not just contending with the first time tourist throngs.
Tichuca Rooftop Bar

Tichuca Rooftop Bar offers something a tad wilder. Set on the 46th floor, it has become known for its glowing, Avatar-like lighting and jellyfish-style installations. Coming here at sunset (and there’s crowds and queues so booking or turning up early is recommended) is a somewhat fantastical experience between a jungle dream and a sci-fi set piece.
Enjoy a cocktail or two and take lots of pictures – there are connected layers to this bar that offer different striking views of the city below. This is the sort of place where the lighting does as much talking as the cocktails.
Bar.Yard

Bar.Yard at the Kimpton Maa-Lai hotel takes a more relaxed party vibe for the night owls. With an unmistakably playful approach at 40 floors up, the tropical garden interior theme softens the edges of the usual sky-bar experience in the Thai capital. Find a blend of Thai, Southeast Asian and Pan-Latin influences here. Peruvian chef Julio César Concha Muñoz offers up fiery fusion creations to nibble on. Sip on local signature cocktails like the Hornbill, Bird of Paradise, Serpent and Sun.
This award-winning party spot has regular DJ nights often playing Afro House and popular favourites. The vibe is social, young and party-focused, but without the hard sheen of some of the city’s more polished rooftops. It feels like a proper Bangkok after dark urban jungle spot to dance the night away.
