Landmark property from 1873 debuts after 18-month transformation, featuring Michelin-starred dining and luxury wellness facilities.

Minor Hotels has unveiled its latest European gem with the completion of an 18-month renovation of the Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna Hotel, marking the luxury brand’s first venture into Austria. The historic Neo-Renaissance palace, originally opened during the 1873 World’s Fair, has been meticulously transformed while preserving its architectural heritage.

The 152-room property, situated on Vienna’s prestigious Ringstrasse, combines its storied past with modern luxury amenities. The renovation has enhanced the hotel’s original features, including marble floors, stucco ceilings, and heritage-listed staircases, while introducing contemporary comforts throughout the guest rooms and public spaces.

A highlight of the refreshed property is its impressive wellness facilities, featuring an 800-square-meter spa complete with a hydrotherapy pool, Finnish sauna, and traditional Hammam. The hotel’s culinary offerings have also been expanded, anchored by the Michelin-starred restaurant Edvard, alongside the newly launched Brasserie Sophie and the atmospheric Theo’s Lounge & Bar.

The property’s journey from its original role as a hotel to serving as a public administration building, and now returning to hospitality under the Anantara brand, reflects its architectural and cultural significance in Vienna’s historic financial district. This latest opening adds to Anantara’s growing European presence, which began in Portugal’s Algarve in 2017 and now includes properties across major cities including Rome, Nice, as well as a similar palace property in Vienna’s former twin-capital, Budapest.
