Research shows traditional budget luxury destinations like Portugal and Poland no longer offer best value.
Looking to indulge without breaking the bank? Greece, Spain and Germany have emerged as Europe’s most affordable luxury destinations, offering affluent but budget-conscious travellers five-star experiences without the premium price tag.
The 2025 European Budget Luxury Travel Index reveals that travellers can enjoy a week of Greek luxury – including business class flights, five-star accommodations, spa treatments, and Michelin-star dining – for just $1,329 per person, nearly a third of the cost of traditional luxury hotspots.
“Luxury travel doesn’t have to mean spending a fortune,” says Kinglike Concierge, who developed the index. “There are incredible destinations where you can experience the very best – the key is knowing where to go.”
The study, which analysed 20 European countries, uncovered several surprising value propositions. Turkey offers five-star accommodations at $330 per week and spa treatments for $22 per session. Meanwhile, Malta presents the most affordable Michelin-star dining at $133 per person, though ironically ranks as the priciest destination overall at $4,296 per week.
Perhaps most surprisingly, traditionally ‘budget-friendly’ destinations like Poland and Portugal rank lower down the affordability scale, with weekly luxury costs of $3,019 and $2,588 respectively. Meanwhile, countries often perceived as expensive, such as Germany and the UK, feature in the top five for luxury value.
The research comes as the luxury travel sector adapts to cost-of-living pressures, with travellers increasingly seeking maximum value from their high-end experiences. The index suggests exploring secondary cities and off-peak seasons can unlock even better value in these already cost-effective destinations.
The top 10 most affordable European countries for a luxury week-long stay are:
Greece — $1329
Spain — $1529
Germany — $1638
Italy — $1666
UK — $1926
Turkey — $1983
France — $2047
Portugal — $2588
Austria — $2802
Poland — $3019
The comprehensive index calculated average costs for one-week luxury holidays, including seven nights in five-star hotels (based on Booking.com data for summer 2025), business class flights, high-end spa treatments, and Michelin-star dining experiences. The research drew from multiple sources, including massageprices.com and Chef’s Pencil’s 2024 study, to ensure accurate pricing across all luxury categories.
