The luxury brand’s debut city property in Japan will form the centrepiece of one of Tokyo’s most ambitious new developments.

Tokyo’s luxury hotel scene has a new name to watch. Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has announced plans for its first urban property in Japan, with Rosewood Tokyo set to rise within the sweeping Roppongi 5-Chome redevelopment — one of the most ambitious mixed-use projects currently taking shape in the Japanese capital.

Led by Mori Building and Sumitomo Realty & Development, the complex will weave together residences, offices, retail and hospitality into a new vertical district with direct access to Roppongi Subway Station. At its centre, the hotel will offer around 200 guestrooms and suites — including expansive three-bedroom accommodations — alongside dining concepts, an indoor pool, fitness facilities, a grand ballroom and Rosewood’s signature Asaya wellbeing offering.

The announcement comes less than a year after the brand quietly entered Japan with Rosewood Miyakojima, an island retreat built around stillness and natural beauty. Tokyo is a different proposition entirely — dense, electric and increasingly global.

Roppongi itself has shed much of its old reputation. Once synonymous with nightlife, the district has matured into one of Tokyo’s most internationally connected neighbourhoods, anchored by luxury residences, corporate headquarters and a growing cultural infrastructure.

Rosewood’s approach – built around its Sense of Place philosophy, which roots each property in local culture and craftsmanship – looks well matched to that evolution. No opening date has yet been confirmed, but we’ll update with details as we get them.
