The East African nation is challenging traditional luxury safari destinations with its innovative offering.
Uganda is revolutionising its luxury tourism offering with the launch of the country’s first helicopter safari experience, giving well-heeled travellers a dramatic new way to explore the ‘Pearl of Africa’.
The ambitious ELEVATE programme, a collaboration between local hospitality and aviation firms, promises to whisk wealthy adventurers high above Uganda’s spectacular landscapes, from the thundering Murchison Falls to the mysterious, mist-shrouded Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
The initiative arrives as luxury travel evolves beyond traditional European and Asian destinations, with Africa increasingly capturing the imagination of high-end tourists seeking extraordinary experiences. While less known than safari heavyweights South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania, Uganda is carving out its niche as a premium destination, boasting a unique combination of savannah wildlife and mountain gorillas.
“For over 25 years, our family has called Uganda home, guided by a clear mission: to showcase it as a premier travel destination through world-class luxury experiences,” says Nathalie Van Pée, Director of Nile Safari Lodge. “With ELEVATE, we offer more than just stunning landscapes — we give you the freedom to explore them from the skies.”
These aerial safaris will give visitors a bird’s-eye view of the country’s dramatic scenery, including the world’s longest river, the mighty Nile, and some of Africa’s most spectacular lakes. The helicopter perspective offers an entirely new way to appreciate Uganda’s diverse ecosystems and abundant wildlife.
The service launches amid growing interest from luxury travellers into the country, with several high-end lodges opening their doors in recent years. The helicopter safaris add another premium option for visitors eager to discover this relatively untapped corner of East Africa.
